Metaphysical: Meditation — This Weird Chick’s Blog

By: Paula Bianchi – I figured since I’m always talking about meditation, I should write an article about it. At first, I was going to be all technical and give you a blow by blow history of what meditation is, and how long people have been practicing it. Let me just say, it’s been around […]

Autumn 🍂 Equinox

Mabon

Autumn Equinox, 2nd Harvest, September 23, 2019 (Almanac)

By Tara Sutphen

Mabon, (pronounced MAY-bun, MAY-bone, MAH-boon, or MAH-bawn) is the Autumn Equinox. The Autumn Equinox divides the day and night equally, and we all take a moment to pay our respects to the impending dark. We also give thanks to the waning sunlight, as we store our harvest of this year’s crops. The Druids call this celebration, Mea’n Fo’mhair, and honor the The Green Man, the God of the Forest, by offering libations to trees. Offerings of ciders, wines, herbs and fertilizer are appropriate at this time. Wiccans celebrate the aging Goddess as she passes from Mother to Crone, and her consort the God as he prepares for death and re-birth.

Various other names for this Lesser Wiccan Sabbat are The Second Harvest Festival, Wine Harvest, Feast of Avalon, Equinozio di Autunno (Strega), Alben Elfed (Caledonii), or Cornucopia. The Teutonic name, Winter Finding, spans a period of time from the Sabbat to Oct. 15th, Winter’s Night, which is the Norse New Year.

At this festival it is appropriate to wear all of your finery and dine and celebrate in a lavish setting. It is the drawing to and of family as we prepare for the winding down of the year at Samhain. It is a time to finish old business as we ready for a period of rest, relaxation, and reflection.

Symbolism of Mabon:

– Second Harvest, the Mysteries, Equality and Balance.

Symbols of Mabon:

– Wine, gourds, pine cones, acorns, grains, corn, apples, pomegranates, vines such as ivy, dried seeds, and horns of plenty.

Foods of Mabon:

Incense of Mabon:

– Autumn Blend-benzoin, myrrh, and sage.

Colors of Mabon:

– Red, orange, russet, maroon, brown, and gold.

Stones of Mabon:

– Sapphire, lapis lazuli, and yellow agates.

Activities of Mabon:

– Making wine, gathering dried herbs, plants, seeds and seed pods, walking in the woods, scattering offerings in harvested fields, offering libations to

trees, adorning burial sites with leaves, acorns, and pine cones to honor those who have passed over.

Spellworkings of Mabon:

– Protection, prosperity, security, and self-confidence. Also those of harmony and balance.

Deities of Mabon:

– Goddesses-Modron, Morgan, Epona, Persephone, Pamona and the Muses. Gods-Mabon, Thoth, Thor, Hermes, and The Green Man.

Mabon is considered a time of the Mysteries. It is a time to honor Aging Deities and the Spirit World. Considered a time of balance, it is when we stop and relax and enjoy the fruits of our personal harvests, whether they be from toiling in our gardens, working at our jobs, raising our families, or just coping with the hussle-bussle of everyday life. May your Mabon be memorable, and your hearts and spirits be filled to overflowing!

Friday the 13th Facts

Friday the 13th Facts

Here are a few fun facts of Friday the 13th to get you in the mood that it’s a good day:

o The US Seal has 13 stars, bars, feathers in the eagle’s tail, 13 bars in one claw, 13 olive branches in the other.

o The Chinese, Pagans and others in ancient times marked time by the lunar cycle and calendar, thus 13 was considered a very lucky number.

o Egyptian philosophy believes life is a mission for the eternal afterlife. This journey walks through 13 levels, the first 12 in this life, at death the 13th level. The number 13 symbolizes death as glorious and attaining “real life”. But you must go through the 12 stages first.

o Fear of Friday the 13th is called Triskaidekaphobia.

o The fear of Friday the 13th started as a Norse Myth where 12 gods were having a party in Valhalla (Heaven) and capricious Loki came as the 13th guest and arranged for Hoder the Blind to shoot Baider the Beautiful with a mistletoe tipped arrow where he died and the earth grew dark.

Full Harvest Moon

Full Harvest Moon

By Tara Sutphen

The Full Harvest Moon (Native American) at 21* Pisces will culminate, September 13, 2019 9:33pm PdT/ September 14, 2019 12:33am EdT (Farmers Almanac).

This Pisces Moon has asked us to quiet down and come back into our deeper self. Whether it be relaxing more, finding a hobby or reducing the worry, we are to find time for ourselves and reactivate. We’ve been in a fast paced world and being pulled in all directions, where do we slow down and remember who we really are… we’re to stop all of the excess and unnecessary drama. We were born to experience a journey of life, to find love, and well-being and make our way easily through goals and success.

We have descendants, associates, or acquaintances who rose to help or squelch us. We sometimes lose our way, we’ve been trying to keep up with “what” “why” or “who”. We can sometimes feel unprepared in dealing with others addictive traits or neurotic patterns. Our self-esteem plummets low on the scale when others bring us into their idiosyncrasies, and our confidence is shattered time and time again. Love can evade us or takes us on merry rides, we have to get back on track. Find time for simple pleasure, take baths, meditate, get a massage, silence our minds, draw, paint, do alone things. Get yourself a good book or write in your journal. No complaining, only solutions and your genuine desires and goals. No need to reflect at this time. You’re being asked to search for your peaceful place, to find rejuvenation, you’re getting ready for a brighter future and to master the goals you set before yourself.

How to Gain a Calm Mind:

  • Don’t overthink
  • Embrace your Fear
  • Focus

Using a calm mind to burgeon into centered decisions

  • Using your Intuition: Using your intuition and psychic ability to move forward. Feeling good about the decisions you make. Knowing when wrong feelings happen they can indicate going in a wrong direction.
  • Initiate Talent or New Skills
  • Feel more Confident
  • Initiate Artistic Abilities
  • Meditation and Prayer

___ Controlling your mind and emotions instead of them managing you. Anger and any over-emotional behavior could backfire if you don’t stay in rational thought. Think of solutions rather than reaction or retaliation. The future is the divine pathway to a great life, but it only takes seconds to make a wrong decision and alter your destiny. Take time for calm thoughts and mindful fixes. Regenerate and Rejuvenate, create the healthy person you wish to be in the world.

—— Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset. ~St Francis De Sales (Aug 21, 1567-Dec 28, 1622)
